Tragic Roller Coaster Accident Claims Life of Theme Park Employee: Investigation Ongoing

A roller coaster struck a theme park employee who was ostensibly performing maintenance when he was severely hurt in the head. Shortly after the collision, the 43-year-old passed away at the site.

Monday afternoon, just before the season began, a 43-year-old worker at an amusement park in Brühl, North Rhine-Westphalia, was killed after being struck by a roller coaster in Phantasialand. Initial investigations reveal that the park's technical department employee was performing maintenance when he suffered a severe head injury, as the Cologne district government—which oversees occupational safety—announced.

The worker passed away at the accident scene shortly after. The inquiries by the specialists were still in progress. They claimed to be in constant communication with the police and Phantasialand to elucidate the accident's circumstances.

The deadly accident at work on the "Taron" roller coaster was initially reported by the authorities on Monday night. Tuesday saw the continuation of the accident inquiry, according to a spokesman. On Monday, the scene was cleared of any traces, and witness interviews were still going on.

Amusement park is still in winter break

Consequently, no one was present when the accident occurred: The theme park's winter hiatus is still going on, although it ends coming Thursday. Then Phantasialand may launch on schedule. The theme park released a statement saying, "The cause of the accident at work has no connection with the safety of the attraction and the visit to the park." The company expressed in it that it was "deeply shocked" by the long-time employee's "tragic accident at work."

The steel roller coaster, with its especially swift and twisty track, is one of the unique attractions in Phantasialand, according to the park operator's homepage. Located in Brühl, close to Cologne, Phantasialand is one of the biggest theme parks in Europe."
