The Sunrisers Hyderabad team stunned the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday by scoring the greatest IPL score ever—277 runs for three wickets—breaking records to the left, right, and center.
In a few of minutes, Travis Head (62 off 24) and Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) broke the franchise record for the fastest fifty with impressive power hitting.
By hammering boundaries towards the end, Henrik Klassen (80 not out off 34 balls) helped SRH break an 11-year-old record. The previous IPL record was set in 2013 by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who scored 263 runs for five wickets.
There was an onslaught of fours and sixes during the innings
as Head and Sharma tormented the Mumbai Indians' attack.
With a brilliant performance, Head—who was oddly left out of the starting lineup for the first few games—solidified his status as one of the game's most dangerous batsmen.
After hitting a half-century in just 18 balls, he broke David Warner's record for the fastest fifty, then Sharma beat Head's record by hitting the century in just 16 balls.
After Head left, Sharma hit hard, mostly concentrating his seven sixes and three fours in the cow corner area.
Fast bowler Kwena Mafakhe of South Africa, who was selected for the Mumbai Indians squad based on his exploits in the Under-19 World Cup, had a terrible start to his IPL career.
His four overs saw him give up 66 runs. The left-arm pacer gave up 22 runs in his second over after failing to recover from Head's onslaught.
It was unexpected to see Mumbai Indians captain Pandya wait
until the 13th over to give Jasprit Bumrah his second over after the majority
of Mumbai's bowlers found it difficult to handle.
Following Sharma's removal, Klassen, who was in fine form, made sure that the SRH attack continued with his barrage of sixes. Klassen ended up hitting seven sixes, the most of which came off of Bumrah's deliveries.
Against KKR at Eden Gardens, Klassen's outstanding performance had all but sealed the game for SRH.
Eoin Morgan, the former captain, scored 42 runs off of 28 balls.
