Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized: Latest Updates After Conviction Overturned

Harvey Weinstein's attorney announced on Saturday that the longtime movie mogul has been committed to the hospital for a number of tests following a court ruling to reverse the 2020 rape conviction and his return to New York City.

Attorney Arthur Aidala stated that Weinstein was hauled to the city's cells on Friday and then transported to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. After being evaluated, he was dispatched to Bellevue. He appears to require a great deal of physical support. He suffers from numerous health problems. He's going through a lot of testing. In terms of health, Aidala compared him like a train wreck. He was left on Saturday at the hospital; a message was left there, but it wasn't answered right away.

The New York City Department of Corrections' Frank Dwyer only confirmed that Weinstein was being held at Bellevue. According to Thomas Mailey, a spokesman for the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Weinstein has been sent to the Mohawk Correctional Facility in Albany, which is roughly 100 miles west.

His conviction was reversed by the New York Court of Appeals on Thursday, citing juror prejudice caused by the trial judge's permitting of too many unrelated accusers to testify. It also mandated a fresh trial and halted his 23-year prison term.

On allegations that he raped an aspiring actress in 2013 and forced oral sex on a television and film production assistant in 2006, prosecutors said they plan to retry him.

Because Weinstein having been found guilty of a second rape in Los Angeles in 2022 and given a 16-year prison sentence, he remained in custody following the ruling.

Weinstein has been dealing with a number of health conditions recently, such as diabetes, sleep apnea, heart problems, and vision problems.

When they were getting ready to depart New York City for New York City, Aidala said he spoke with Weinstein on Friday afternoon. Weinstein was then freed on Thursday morning, less than twenty-four hours following the appeals court's ruling.

Although his client has physical ailments, he is quite intelligent psychologically, according to him. He's got his feet firmly planted.

To arrange for the transportation of an inmate, officials from the jail and state corrections usually need a week or two notice.

He hasn't received good treatment. Aidala claimed that he did not receive meals, breaks for the restroom, or even a glass of water. He's a sick man of seventy-two.

Aidala claimed they were informed Bellevue medical staff intended to do multiple tests on Weinstein prior to his return to the Rikers Island detention facility.

He stated that he will see Weinstein on Monday. He stated that he intended to inform the judge that a fresh hearing should be held when Weinstein appears in court in Manhattan on Wednesday, following Labor Day.
