Transgender Day Clash: Biden's Easter Announcement Sparks Controversy with Trump Campaign

The choice to honor Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter has caused tension between US President Joe Biden and Republican opponent Donald Trump.

Transgender Visibility Day was established by Biden on Saturday to "recognize the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans."

In 2021, Biden originally proclaimed March 31 as Transgender Day; however, this year, the date falls on Easter Sunday, which is considered to be one of the most sacred days in the Christian calendar.

The Trump team harshly criticized Biden's declaration in a statement released on Saturday, calling it "appalling" and a continuation of "attacks on the Christian faith that have been ongoing for years."

"We call on Biden's failed campaign and the White House to apologize to millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is just a celebration - the resurrection of Jesus Christ," stated Caroline Levitt, a spokesman for the Trump team.

Biden's allegiance to the Catholic faith was also criticized by Republican House of Representatives chairman Mike Johnson, who called the revelation "insulting and offensive" and a rejection of the "central tenets" of Easter.

The message from Johnson read, "American people are paying attention."

Republicans, according to White House spokesperson Andrew Bates, were attempting to weaken and divide the nation by "cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric."

"As an Easter-celebrating Christian, President Biden stands ready to bring people together and uphold the dignity and freedom of every American," Bates stated in a statement provided to multiple news agencies.

Bates stated, "President Biden will never misuse his faith for political purposes or gain," alluding to an obvious incident in which Trump urged his followers to purchase the $59.99 "God Bless the U.S.A." Bible.

Elizabeth Alexander, the director of communications for First Lady Jill Biden, said that it was false to say that the Biden administration outlawed religious symbols in a student art competition because other administrations—including Trump's—had employed language that was just as inclusive.
With the November presidential election approaching, the divisive culture battles between Republicans and Democrats have made the transgender issue a focal topic.

As an advocate of LGBTQ+ rights, Biden has positioned himself behind the flag of greater inclusivity and equality.
In the meantime, conservative Christians who feel cut off from an increasingly secular liberal culture have been drawn to Trump.
In America, attitudes about transgender people differ greatly from state to state.
Transgender people are able to identify as the gender they desire without undergoing surgery or other medical procedures in a number of states headed by Democrats.
Legislation outlawing gender-affirming procedures for minors and the participation of biological females in women's sports has been approved by Republican-led states.
